Virtual Formula: Frequently Asked Questions

On this page you can find a few questions and answers related to the VI-grade Virtual Formula:

What is the global reference frame orientation in VI-SuspenionsGen?
"The coordinates are in the global reference frame, which has the axis orientation of X as backward, Y pointing to the right-hand side of the vehicle and Z as up."
NOTE: The Virtual Formula tutorial wrongly stated:"These coordinates are in the global reference frame which has the axis orientation of X as forward, Y pointing to the left-hand side of the vehicle and Z as up."

Is it allowed to change the suspennsion type in VI-SuspensionGen or can we only change the hardpoints and springs' stifnesses or shock absorbers' damping for the suspension layout that has been provided in the package?
"You can use any suspensions layout that VI-SuspenionGen supports. Please note that the real place to change the spring and damper characteristic is in VI-CarRealTime, because VI-SuspenionsGen will only generate the curves that represent the kinematic and compliance characteristic of your suspension"

Can we use a custom modelled suspension system made in ADAMS?
"If you just export the suspension from ADAMS using the VI-CarRealTime plugin, you can use any suspension design you wish. But we require that you otherwise use the system file in VI-CarRealTime as provided in the virtual formula data package as a starting point, because it contains some settings for the driveline and powertrain (the build in controllers  for ABS and TCS have to remain switched off)"

Can I shift the vehicle CG location when changing the wheel base of the vehicle?
"Yes you can move the vehicle CG location fore and aft only. All other mass and inertia adjustments have to be accomplished by placing the 10 kg available ballast."

Can we use our on vehicle graphics?
"Yes you can inlcude graphics for the vehicle. The way to do that is by either exporting the vehicle from VI-SportsCar (ADAMS) or by manually editing the cmd file associated with the model"

Can I change the brake bias and master cylinder pressure gain?
"Yes you can change the brake bias and master cylinder pressure gain. This addition to the rules is required especially when the vehicles have a difference in weight distribution or wheel base compared to the vehicle that was supplied as a sample"
