AUTONOMOUS RACING CARS: WILL A ROBOT DRIVER EVER BEAT A HUMAN?

The presentation will introduce the most recent advances in autonomous racing, focusing on the Indy Autonomous Challenge and Roborace competitions. The different autonomous (or hybrid) motorsport formats will be discussed, with special attention on the role of autonomous motorsport, and its potential impact on the challenge of developing public-road fully-autonomous car. The importance of vehicle simulation (both off-line and run-rime) for this technical challenge will be emphasized and discussed. Recent results on the Simulator-in-the-Loop approach will be briefly presented.
