One of the primary goals of Tesla’s NVH team is to deliver optimal NVH performance across all vehicle models. A key challenge arises since the same model is produced globally and validated on test tracks in different regions, where road surface characteristics vary significantly. These differences could affect road noise, which acts as masking noise and can change the perception of other NVH issues such as powertrain noise, leading to inconsistent evaluations. To address this, an extensive usage of the NVH simulator helped to evaluate a range of common test track surfaces and to perform global subjective driving. Based on that a frequency- and level-dependent scaling methodology to predict masking noise on different region surfaces is presented. This allows for more accurate prediction of NVH perception across regions without requiring physical testing on every surface.
